To mark German Unity Day, we are screening the second part of Torsten Körner’s film series “Die Unbeugsamen” (The Unbreakables), commemorating German reunification and celebrating the impressive life achievements of East German women and their struggle for equal opportunities in the GDR.

“Women, if we do nothing today, we will live tomorrow as we did the day before yesterday.” Annemirl Bauer, 1984

With his film “THE UNBREAKABLES,” director Torsten Körner created a cinematic tribute to the female politicians of the Bonn Republic and their struggle for political participation.

With “THE UNBENDING 2 – GOOD MORNING, YOU BEAUTIES!”, he turns his gaze to the other side of the Iron Curtain and paints a vivid group portrait of East German women from a wide variety of social spheres in the GDR.
Fifteen self-assured women recount how, even in a country where equality was mandated by the state, patriarchy still reigned, thereby creating a powerful kaleidoscope of gender relations in the workers’ and peasants’ state.

This event is part of the “Film Talks” series, organized in cooperation with Evangelical Adult Education, the Educational Institute of the Archdiocese of Freiburg, BUND, the Offenburg Adult Education Center (VHS), and the City of Offenburg’s Office for Gender Equality.
