Ordinary people also went to the spa. Hardly noticed in the literature, farmers, members of the lower classes and the poor were nevertheless among the visitors to the spas and often even made up the majority of guests. However, as they were not the focus of official publications and historiography, the "ordinary" people in need of a cure were left in the shadows.

Dr. Fred Kaspar investigates these forgotten spa visitors and examines the general social significance of the spa, which also includes aspects of pilgrimage, spiritual relief and a temporary escape from everyday conventions.

Dr. Fred Kaspar, former senior conservator and architectural historian at the Westphalian Office for the Preservation of Monuments of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe, is a proven expert on the cultural and architectural history of spas, on which he has published extensively. The lecture is a cooperation between the Müllheim/Markgräflerland local board of trustees of the German Foundation for Monument Protection and the Markgräfler Museum.
