The Salmen is a memorial to all victims of National Socialism.

During the Second World War, countless foreign soldiers were taken prisoner by the Germans. Several thousand men passed through the prisoner of war camp in Offenburg during this time. They were housed in "Stalag VC", the former military training camp "Am Holderstock". This camp also included 500 labor detachments outside Offenburg with tens of thousands of other prisoners.
Like the forced laborers, the prisoners of war were also used in industry and agriculture. Sometimes this resulted in close private relationships that lasted long after the war.
