Commemoration ceremony on November 9 at 7 p.m.
During the November pogroms of 1938, Jewish life throughout Germany was brutally attacked. In Offenburg, too, the synagogue in the Salmensaal was desecrated. With a commemorative event on November 9, we remember this dark chapter in German history.

“The Diary of Anne Frank” is the most famous diary in the world. Anne received it as a gift from her father in 1942; just a few days later, she had to flee from the Gestapo. For two years, the Jewish Frank family hid in a secret annex in Amsterdam—in constant fear of being discovered. The 13-year-old confided her feelings and thoughts to her diary: about the existential fears of living in hiding, but also about the very ordinary worries of a teenager.

The diary entries end two years later—three days before Anne’s arrest and deportation to the Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps, where she died shortly before the end of the war.

The Eurodistrict Baden-Alsace Theater brings a play of remembrance to the stage, featuring highly topical material that is meant to stir the conscience and raise awareness against anti-Semitism and racism.
