An inexhaustible source of inspiration, the animal world has been part of artistic creation since the earliest cave paintings. The ambiguous relationship between human beings and other species is revealed in all its complexity, between fascination, otherness and dependence, despite the evolution of our view of living things over time. For, long reduced to the rank of object or wild beast, animals are increasingly coming to the fore, thanks to a shift in focus from man to the ecosystem as a whole. This awareness is reflected in the concerns of artists, who are privileged witnesses to the richness of biodiversity. To coincide with the reopening of the Musée Zoologique, the project brings together specimens from the naturalist collections and works from the MAMCS, all of which have a deep connection with the living world.
