The artist (*1990) is known for her intense passion for collecting and her unique eye for seemingly worthless objects that have ended up on the street or in the trash. Deeply moved by these finds, she feels compelled to give these objects new value and, so to speak, bring them back to the table. Cast in porcelain and refined with glaze, she creates mugs and vases with a retro design. By arranging objects closely together or stacking them on top of one another, and by embossing and embellishing figurative elements, the porcelain artist creates delightful table decorations that reflect contemporary society just as 18th-century Baroque culture was once reflected in the table decorations of that era. After completing a traditional wheel-throwing apprenticeship and studying art at Burg Giebichenstein, Annegret Streu recently moved into a shared studio space in Halle.
The exhibition opens on Friday, July 9, at 7 p.m., kicking off the event days with an introduction and music. The artist will be present and will also help organize the museum festival on the weekend of July 10–11.
