This traveling exhibition tells the life stories of children born during World War II or in the early postwar period as a result of forbidden relationships between Germans and prisoners of war or forced laborers. As adults, they look back. Are love and friendship political? Where do you look for relatives you know nothing about? Do you have to know where you come from to know who you are? What is discussed—and what is not? This nationwide research and exhibition project by the Lager Sandbostel Memorial in Lower Saxony was funded as part of the “Educational Agenda on Nazi Injustice” by the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility, and the Future” (EVZ) and the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF). For Freiburg, it has been expanded to include stories of people from the region.
