Playing field. Sport & Art

Doing things together and acting together in consideration of one another is the focus of the art exhibition, which revolves around the theme of sport. Sport is a mass phenomenon and as such brings together the most diverse groups of people, whether as spectators, fans or active participants: Sport promotes community! At the same time, sport is a topic that raises many questions about participation and inclusion, barriers and boundaries, but also brings opportunities and new possibilities for mutual encounters.

The special exhibition shows works by international contemporary artists - including Matthew Barney, Erwin Wurm, Zuzanna Janin, Yoko Ono and Mario~Touched - who deal with the social, cultural and societal conditions of sport on an artistic level.

Unusually for a museum exhibition, many of the works on display actively invite visitors to take part. Visitors can actually play table tennis, soccer or chess - a visit to the museum becomes an active and special shared experience because the artworks encourage visitors to find new ways of playing and joint solutions.
