From the fall, the Kunsthalle in the Orangerie will be dedicating itself to the work of French artist Nicolas Daubanes (*1983). In his large-format wall drawings and spatial installations, he deals with power structures and the will to resist them.
His works reflect the causes and consequences of violence, social injustice, oppression and war, as well as skepticism towards authoritarian structures and autocratic regimes. He devotes his historical research primarily to phenomena of recent French and German history and the present, the Resistance during the Second World War and the fate of prisoners and deportees.
The exhibition title "Le feu intérieur" refers both to the fact that fires smoulder within societies and to the "inner fire" that drives artists, scientists, politicians and citizens who resist. It is about the courage to disobey, from which ideas for techniques of sabotage in resistance, mutinies and subversions stem. Daubanes' art deals with strategies of survival and liberation whose global relevance is undeniable.
