Johann Peter Hebel (1760-1826), the Wiesental's most famous local poet, wrote about the world and his homeland in his works. Although he rarely traveled, in 1805 he accompanied two young noblemen on a four-week educational trip through Switzerland and recorded his impressions in a diary. Fascinating landscapes, a rich cultural history and the special political circumstances of the Swiss Confederation at the time of Napoleon had given Switzerland an early tourist industry.
The Dreiländermuseum Lörrach created this traveling exhibition in cooperation with the Hebelbund and presented it in 2018. In Schopfheim, it is to be restaged, i.e. shown in an expanded form, as part of the network exhibition "At home - on the road" and on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Johann Peter Hebel's death.
