A lecture with the archaeometrician Maria Thais Affonso
Castles are not only made of stone - their mortar also tells a story. In this lecture, archaeometrician Dr. Maria Thais Affonso shows how scientific investigations of mortar can provide surprising insights into the construction period, the origin of the materials and the knowledge of ancient and medieval master builders. She will vividly explain how exciting insights into the life and work of past centuries can be gained from inconspicuous building materials and what results the investigations of the mortar of the Turmhölzle castle ruins in Raitbach have yielded.
