Mopeds from the Durlach company Gritzner
Founded in Durlach in 1872, the Gritzner-Kayser company sold its sewing machines in over 80 countries worldwide. What is less well known is that in the 1950s and early 1960s, the company also produced mopeds with the illustrious names Brummi, Monza and Milano.
The models from Gritzner-Kayser were not only affordable and reliable means of transportation, but were also characterized by an elegant design. This changed over time and was increasingly based on motorcycles. Engine power also increased steadily: while the first model, the Brummi 30, which appeared in 1953, only had 0.9 hp, both the Monza and the Milano brought an impressive 1.6 hp to the road from 1959. Individual converted machines even became successful stars in motorsport thanks to their high quality and performance.
Original mopeds take visitors back to a bygone chapter in transport history, which was characterized by increasing mobility and the desire to travel in the era of the economic miracle. Historical photographs and advertising material provide fascinating insights into the manufacture, product range, distribution and use of mopeds.
Fun Facts, ein Führerschein-Quiz und eine nostalgische Camping-Inszenierung laden weiter dazu ein, sich spielend in das Ausstellungsthema zu vertiefen.
