What does democracy sound like? Can music spark social debates? And what role does each and every individual play in living together in an open society? The nationwide music project “Klang der Demokratie” explores these questions through a multimedia soundscape.

The approximately 60-minute performance combines classical music, improvisation, electronic soundscapes, speech, video art, and interactive participation into an extraordinary concert experience. The audience becomes not just listeners, but part of a shared artistic experience. Democracy isn’t explained—it’s experienced together.

The project is organized by Freiraum Syndikat gUG under the artistic direction of Lukas Dreyer. Together with a flexible ensemble of musicians, the project develops new forms of cultural and democratic engagement. At its core is the idea of using music as a shared space of experience where different perspectives become visible and audible.

In cooperation with the State Agency for Political Education of Baden-Württemberg and with the kind support of the Foundation for Sites of German Democratic History.

The performance will take place at Salmen as part of the Long Night of Democracy.
