To bring the significance of our architectural heritage to life, historically significant buildings and sites throughout Germany invite visitors to explore them each September with a diverse program of events. Visit the Salmen during Open Monument Day—admission is free—and learn more about the fascinating history of our building on a free guided tour!

Built as a simple tavern in the late 18th century, it became known as a site of the revolution, later served as a synagogue, then an electronics store, and today stands as the House of Democracy: The historic Salmen building has served a wide variety of purposes throughout history, making it a truly unique place today.

On this guided tour, we’ll take a look back at the past and shed light on the building’s eventful history, going beyond its well-known phases as a site of the revolution and a synagogue. We’ll also delve into its unique architectural history, as the building is particularly impressive due to its rare construction style.

Admission and the tour are free for everyone.
Please register for the tour by emailing salmen@offenburg.de.
