Between seduction, dominance, self-doubt, and ridicule: Prof. Götz Payer’s art song class (HMDK Stuttgart) invites you to a classical art song recital of a special kind.

As part of the major special exhibition “Ornament & Symbol: What Adorns Men” at the Landesmuseum Württemberg, the students explore the theme of “masculinity” through music, questioning traditional gender roles and the constant evolution of the male identity. Inspired by Herbert Grönemeyer’s famous question, “When is a man a man?”, the evening brings powerful emotions, a break from clichés, and magnificent voices to the stage—and presents the classical lieder repertoire in a modern, socially relevant context!
