The Transylvanian Museum in Gundelsheim introduces its visitors to the culture and history of the historical region of Transylvania, in today's Romania, located in the Carpathian Arc. As the regional museum for Transylvania, it displays a wide range of cultural and historical artefacts and also has an extensive art collection. With more than 23,000 objects, the museum houses the most important collection on the culture and history of the Transylvanian Saxons of German origin in the context of their multi-ethnic and multi-religious environment outside Romania. On the ground floor, seven themed areas illustrate the eventful history and multifaceted culture of the region from the Middle Ages to the present day. Since 2024, the museum's treasury has also been exhibiting goldsmith's work and rare textiles from the 15th to 18th centuries. Special exhibitions are held on the upper floor of the museum several times a year. It also houses the picture gallery with works from the Baroque period to the present day and a display depot for the glass collection, textiles and ceramics.
