Fondation Fernet-Branca

Fondation Fernet-Branca
Fondation Fernet-Branca
The idea was born in February 2003, during a visit to the site by Jean Ueberschlag, deputy mayor, and Jean-Michel Wilmotte, architect, on the occasion of the mission entrusted by the Saint-Louis City Council to the Wilmotte Cabinet responsible for defining a new urban project for Saint-Louis.

The project to transform the former Fernet Branca distillery into a museum of contemporary art is part of the cross-border environment of Saint-Louis, with the Beyeler Foundation, the Tinguely Museum, the Schaulager, the annual exhibition "Art'Basel" in Basel and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany. With this project, the aim is to provide Saint-Louis and its region with a contemporary art exhibition space that complements the cultural offer offered in the heart of downtown Saint-Louis with existing structuring facilities: the "Le Parnasse" multimedia library opened in 1993, three cinemas, an Italian-style theatre "La Coupole", built in 1999, and the future literary café.
From now on, and thanks to Saint-Louis, his country will occupy a beautiful place in this magnificent tri-national cultural network around Basel.
