The French soldier Abdelkader Ben Ladsche, who came from Algeria, died in a German military hospital during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. His skull ended up in Alexander Ecker's anatomical collection at the University of Freiburg - it was never buried or repatriated. Using his own photographs and quotations from historical texts, Marcel van Eeden explores and interprets a real moment in history and artistically engages with colonialism and racism.
