A Brief History of Basel
Around 200,000 people from 200 nations live in Basel. The city forms the centre of a large tri-national region with a long history. The ‘Zeitsprünge’ exhibition offers highlights of the events and developments that have shaped the city and the region. Around one hundred exhibits lead the visitor through time – from the earliest traces of mankind to contemporary objects. On display are the most important items, evidence of the city’s history, as well as objects from everyday life – and some that may surprise us. Six short films open up historical perspectives on contemporary topics such as the influence of immigration and migration, the importance of the pharmaceutical industry or the relationship between city and country. Media stations invite visitors to discover and solve riddles, and a large interactive installation combines city maps, historical photographs and facts on urban and demographic development.
The exhibition is trilingual (German, French, English) throughout and provides full access to the disabled.
