History and tradition
Come and discover the history of bread and the bakeries in Sélestat
Supported with great enthusiasm by the region's bakers, this house is designed to inform visitors about bread in all its diverse forms and thus also to promote the bakers' trade. Installed in the former bakers' guildhouse of 1522, the Breadhouse exhibits an interesting range of historical artefacts.

Bread is the first processed food envisaged by man, after countless generations had merely plucked the grains. One section of the museum presents the history of bread and wheat in our region and throughout world, the various baking methods, the artefacts and the machines. The introduction to the modern bakery of this day and age begins here. The hub of the house is the baking room, a hands-on workshop where visitors are permitted to knead the dough.
