Séraphine Louis (known as de Senlis) finds in nature a mystical language where matter and the invisible merge. Her fervently painted flowers and fruits vibrate with cosmic energy and an intuitive connection to the earth. Supported by collector Wilhelm Uhde, in the 1920s she created monumental canvases of hypnotic density, in which color becomes prayer. Her work, somewhere between ecstasy and mystery, turns nature into a sanctuary. At the Centre Pompidou-Metz, Séraphine opens up a space of contemplation where art and the power of the living unite.
