The Ukrainian port city of Odesa (based on the Ukrainian spelling) is not only scarred by war, but is also a place of great cultural treasures. In order to protect these, more than 60 masterpieces from the Odesa Museum of Western and Eastern Art were brought to safety in cooperation with the Gemäldegalerie Berlin. The exhibition "Masterpieces from Odesa" brings together this impressive collection of European painting - with highlights by artists such as Francesco Granacci, Frans Hals, Cornelis de Heem, Roeland Savery and Bernardo Strozzi.
Particularly exciting: numerous works enter into a direct dialog with the holdings of the Kurpfälzisches Museum. This juxtaposition not only reveals artistic connections, but also makes it impressively clear how strongly European identity is shaped by common cultural roots.
