MARCUS SCHWIER. SINGING. A LONG-TERM PHOTO PROJECT.
The town of Singen celebrates its elevation to a town 125 years ago. Part of the double exhibition "125 x SINGEN. history. Diversity. Identity." by the town of Singen, the Singen town archive and the Singen Art Museum to mark the anniversary is the large-scale photo project "SINGEN." by photo artist Marcus Schwier.
For several years, Marcus Schwier repeatedly visited the town and took photographs in Singen. In doing so, he explored the city of Singen and its transformation like no other before him. The result of his photographic research is shown in a selection of 200 densely arranged photographs from the interior of those mostly inaccessible places on which the city largely lives: large-scale industry, in the Singen Art Museum. But the cityscape, urban development and places of Singen's identity are also presented. Schwier's photographs are therefore not only a long-term photographic art project, but also a portrait of the city's contemporary history.

Marcus Schwier (*1964), der in Düsseldorf und Salem lebt und arbeitet, ist ein international bekannter, auf Architekturfotografie spezialisierter Fotokünstler. Seit Mitte der 1990er-Jahre wurde und wird sein Werk in großen Museen und renommierten Galerien im In- und Ausland gezeigt. Im Zentrum seines seriellen wie konzeptuellen Ansatzes stehen das Ortsspezifische und die abstrakte Ästhetik des Raums. »Seine Arbeiten sind Lehrstücke darüber, wie die Beleuchtung die Identität von Dingen verändert« (Robert Morat).
