Regional textile heritage in Baden-Württemberg
Lotte Hofmann (LoHo), an important textile artist from Baden-Württemberg, is largely forgotten today - wrongly so: she received many awards for her work, including the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954. In 1947, she co-founded the Baden-Württemberg Association of Arts and Crafts and initiated a foundation to promote German textile art. Her works can be found in renowned museums, but her stage curtains, for example for the Liederhalle Stuttgart, are hardly known. The retrospective at the Max Berk Textile Collection, sponsored by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, now pays tribute to her life's work. Curated by Nanna Aspholm-Flik M.A., the exhibition mainly shows pieces from private collections that were discovered through intensive research - such as a suitcase with designs by LoHo from the estate of her great-nephew, the theater artist Frank Soehnle. These unique testimonies paint a picture of a modern, emancipated artist and entrepreneur. A varied accompanying program - on site and at the adult education centres in Aalen and Murrhardt - helps to keep the memory of Lotte Hofmann alive.
