Delicate vessels made of white or black porcelain with a silky-matte, spiral-grooved surfaces and stone-like vessels made of heavily fireclay-reinforced clay with glaze demonstrate the breadth of the ceramist’s (*1981) work; naturally, he also creates typical vessels for the Japanese tea ceremony, such as chawan. He stands firmly in the tradition of Korean-Japanese ceramics, drawing on the Tobikanna technique in his “Helice” series and on Japanese slipware in his “Kohiki” series. Trained at Ishoken, the Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center, Cúze moved to Berlin in 2012. His vessels are not merely meant to be viewed; they are also designed to reveal their shadow effects as the light changes. Raised and recessed
