The last survivors of the Holocaust and the Shoah will only be able to share their experiences in personal encounters for a limited time.
What remains are their memories in books, historical film documentaries, exhibitions and educational projects. In addition, there are always new media: comics, social media formats, holograms...
The exhibition looks at different aspects of contemporary witnesses: How does a narrative emerge from personal memories and what influences it? How do interviews and other testimonies actually come about? What has changed in the way they are handled since 1945? And how do museums and memorials deal with them today and in the future?
For the exhibition in Freiburg, excerpts from interviews with survivors from Freiburg were added. There is also an accompanying themed tour through the permanent exhibition of the DZNS in the Museen Freiburg app.
