In the current exhibition "From artichoke to zebra", the Ettlingen Museum is showing works from its collection that were created between 1900 and the present day.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, still lifes have been increasingly detached from their traditional function as lifelike depictions. Artists used everyday objects, plants or arranged objects to explore formal questions of color, surface and composition. In realistic, expressive or abstract approaches, the subjective point of view came more to the fore. The still life became a field of experimentation for modern pictorial concepts.
The beauty of inanimate objects is contrasted by animal depictions with an immediate aesthetic of the living. Animals no longer appear exclusively as lifelike studies or symbolic motifs, but as carriers of emotional, social or existential meanings. Simplified forms, expressive coloration or fragmented depictions reflect the stylistic developments of modernism and at the same time address the relationship between humans, animals and nature.

Werden Sie aktiv kreativ! In unserem Ausstellungsatelier können sich Besucherinnen und Besucher jeden Alters ganz spontan aus einer Vielzahl an Objekten ein Stillleben zusammenstellen und vor Ort zeichnen. Papier und Stifte liegen bereit, können aber auch mitgebracht werden.
Das Atelier ist während der Öffnungszeiten der Ausstellung geöffnet. Eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.
Schulklassen und Gruppen
Für Schulklassen (begrenzte Teilnehmerzahl) und Kleingruppen kann das Atelier in Kombination mit einer Führung auch exklusiv genutzt werden nach vorheriger Terminvereinbarung.
