It is a spectacular addition to the collection: the large-format painting "Peinture 252 x 102 cm, 8 février 1990" is one of the famous "Outrenoirs" by the French painter Pierre Soulages.
The work was recently acquired for the collection of the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe with funds from the Museumsstiftung Baden-Württemberg. It is now being shown to the Karlsruhe public for the first time and is the focus of a concentrated studio exhibition at the Kunsthalle im ZKM, in which the artist's prints are also on display alongside his paintings. The focus of this concentrated presentation is on the artist's own experience of light reflections on the impasto application of black paint in relation to his own movement, the dynamics of light and darkness, which leave plenty of room for imagination and mind games. The painting was created against the background of his important windows for the Romanesque abbey church in Conques in the south of France and will be shown in the collection of late-medieval Christian art at the Kunsthalle im ZKM in the future.
