In the Buëch valley, in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes, Michel Cohen shapes his pieces to the rhythm of the seasons, in an old farmhouse that has become a workshop. For over twenty years, he has been exploring ceramics rooted in time, nature and the alchemy of fire. Michel Cohen's practice revolves around the anagama kiln. For five days and nights, he feeds the fire, letting the flames and ashes transform the material. A self-taught turner, Michel Cohen creates utilitarian forms - bottles, teapots, bowls, boxes - that he thinks of as sculptures.
For this new museum exhibition, in partnership with the European Institute of Ceramic Arts, Michel Cohen celebrates his 55th firing - a symbolic milestone in a body of work built with constancy and humility. The exhibition presents a selection of recent pieces, reflecting an intimate dialogue between earth, fire and gesture. It reveals a singular career path, inspired by major figures in ceramics and nourished by a deep bond with nature and humanity.
