Public guided tour of the city followed by a tour of the Museum of City History
Situated in a convenient location, the Zähringer foundation of Neuenburg am Rhein quickly developed into an important town with flourishing trade. Its elevation to an imperial city in the course of the 13th century and the granting of the city charter in 1292 also gave Neuchâtel political significance. In the 17th century, the town suffered from the armed conflicts between the European powers. The medieval buildings were largely destroyed in this century. Neuchâtel on the Rhine was also the target of two destructive attacks during the Second World War.

After a tour of the most important sites in Neuchâtel's history, the route leads to the museum, which vividly documents the history of the town of Neuchâtel on the Rhine. Historical documents, exciting archaeological objects, a new special exhibition on the Zähring dynasty and many paintings and pictorial sources bring the town's eventful history to life and show what can no longer be seen in the townscape.
