Emil Ferris’s works are characterised by a multitude of parallel narrative layers. The feminist themes that are important to her do not come across as a theoretical statement, but are intricately woven into the narrative structure, the characters and the visual language. With great subtlety, she portrays female and queer characters as multifaceted, often self-contradictory personalities, making questions of identity readily tangible.
