In his new novel "Die Lebensentscheidung", Austrian author Robert Menasse focuses on the trials and tribulations of Europe. Frustrated by the mills of bureaucracy, Franz Fiala makes a "life decision" and quits his job at the European Commission. He doesn't tell his mother
and the conversation with Nathalie about their future together also fails. When he is diagnosed with cancer, it is suddenly all about deceiving his mother and sparing her the pain of watching her son die. Can you make decisions about your life? With existential force, this novel tells of a race against death, of love and family, of living and dying.

On this evening, Robert Menasse will read passages from his book, complemented by a panel discussion with Cordelia Schulz, a member of the "PULSE of Europe" movement in Offenburg. She has been campaigning for Europe with great commitment for several years. In the discussion, Menasse and Schulz shed light on the big picture of "Europe" from different perspectives and explore the questions of the right "life choices" in our current world.

The event is being held in cooperation with the AKZENTE bookshop.
