Guided tour of the special exhibition “The Breisgau Five” with curator Dr. Ruth Hötzel-Dickel
The St. Märgen Monastery Museum, in collaboration with the Augustinermuseum Freiburg, is presenting its first exhibition dedicated to the Breisgauer Fünfer artists’ association, which was founded in Freiburg in 1903. On display are 45 paintings and prints, as well as 30 other works by the painters Prof. Karl Heffner, Carl Schuster, Fritz Reiss, Ludwig Zorn, and Hermann Dischler. The five artists joined forces to promote their work beyond the Breisgau region.
Between 1904 and 1907, they exhibited together in Freiburg, Munich, Karlsruhe, and Basel under the name “Breisgauer Fünfer.” The exhibition aims to highlight the group’s artistic diversity and, for the first time in over 100 years, to present works by these very different artists together in a single exhibition, including numerous motifs from the Black Forest.
