The Salmen is a contemporary witness and a cultural monument of national importance. It has an eventful history: built as an inn with a banqueting hall above the stable building, it became famous through the proclamation of the "13 Demands of the People" in 1847 and was used as a synagogue by the Jewish community of Offenburg until the National Socialists desecrated the prayer hall on November 10, 1938. Our permanent exhibition guides visitors through the eventful history of the building,
but also shows how it relates to our present day and our understanding of democracy today.
This guided tour will give you a detailed insight into our permanent exhibition.
