After almost six years of war and more than 60 million victims, negotiations in May 1945 finally led to the unconditional surrender of the German Wehrmacht and the complete collapse of the Nazi state.
Today, May 8th is known worldwide as "Liberation Day" and commemorates the end of National Socialist tyranny.

The short tour gives an overview of how the events of these days became the foundation stone for democracy and peace in Europe and why it took over 40 years before May 8 was no longer officially regarded as a "day of defeat".
