The Hans-Thoma Art Museum grants an insight into the comprehensive and versatile works of the artist Hans Thoma by displaying oil canvases, graphics, artworks and biographical documents.

A further highlight of the museum is the presentation of the winners of the Hans-Thoma Prize of Baden-Württemberg. The Hans-Thoma Prize, “großer Landespreis für Bildende Kunst Baden-Württemberg”, is awarded every other year. Meanwhile there are more than 40 prize winners, among them famous artists such as Otto Dix (1967), Anselm Kiefer (1983), K.R.H. Sonderborg (1989) and Thomas Ruff (2003). In honour of the winning artist, an exhibition is dedicated to his/her latest works. The award ceremony is part of the traditional celebration of the Hans-Thoma Day which takes place on the second weekend in August each year. Alternating with the Hans-Thoma-award in years with even numbers, the award ‘NaturEnergie-Förderpreis' honours regional artists.
