The Museum of Anatomy of the University of Basel was founded in 1824 by Professor Carl Gustav Jung. It serves two purposes: firstly, it is a public museum that explains the structure of the human body by means of various exhibits. In an age of increasing health awareness, this is a source of detailed information for interested visitors. Secondly it is a teaching venue for medical students and nursing schools, charity organisations and others. In the museum they find original preparations of the human body parts, organs and tissue, which are systematically and topographically ordered. One section of the museum is dedicated to the prenatal development of the human being, while special exhibitions provide comprehensible insights into particular fields of anatomy.
