In collaboration with the MASI in Lugano, the Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, and the Josef Albers Museum Quadrat in Bottrop, the Wilhelm-Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen is organizing a comprehensive retrospective on Richard Paul Lohse—one of the founders of systematic-constructive art in the 20th century—twenty years after his last museum exhibition.
This ambitious project underscores the significance of Lohse’s work and the central position his painting holds in the international art world. Featuring a selection of more than sixty paintings from the four defining decades of his artistic career—from the 1940s until his death—the exhibition highlights fundamental elements of his rigorous, methodical approach, as well as historical events, social utopias, and Lohse’s faith in the expressive power of color.
