Long before the space age, philosophers and writers sent their heroes to the moon in fantastical flying machines. From Jules Verne to early science fiction classics to Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, and Tintin, the exhibition shows how closely imagination and technological progress were linked.
The focus is on space toys from the 1950s and 1960s: tin rockets, robots, lunar rovers, and UFOs. They tell the story of the space race leading up to the moon landing—and how the dream of flying to the stars found its way into children’s bedrooms.
