Created in 1822, the departmental museum of old and contemporary art in Epinal, renovated in 1992, preserves 34,000 objects and works of art. It is one of the most important museums in Lorraine. In the elegant contemporary building, the collections of archaeology, ethnography or classical paintings interact with contemporary art.


Around the old one

From La Tour, Rembrandt and le Lorrain, it presents a wide range of 17th and 18th century European painting. To the collection of the Princes of
Salm (works by Stella, La Hyre, A. Coypel, Lemoine, Rosa, Ricci, l'Albane, Brueghel de Velours, Rembrandt) are supplemented by purchases (Mignard, Robert, Piola), donations (La Tour, Furini, de Heem) and deposits of State works (Le Lorrain, Bourdon, Vignon, Panini)


Around the contemporary

Unique in Lorraine's museums, the museum's contemporary art collection bears witness to the main European and American movements of the past 60 years, characterised by the questioning of art production and reception, are represented: Conceptual Art, Minimal Art, New Realism or Arte Povera. Visitors will be able to discover the works of Mario Merz, Christian Boltanski, Jacques Villeglé, Dan Flavin, Joseph Kosuth, François Morellet, Gilbert and George, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Jenny Holzer, Richard Deacon, Sigmar Polke, Niele Toroni.
