The Museum of Printed Textiles has preserved along with pattern books almost 50,000 textile documents: lengths of cloth, bed covers, scarves, shawls etc…. The collection consists of textiles from all over the world and focuses on the Alsatian printing industry. It is presented to visitors in a series of temporary exhibitions. The textile documents span the entire history of decorative art – from rare masterpieces to everyday objects, from the sumptuous drapes of the 18th century to T-shirts, from the first European prints to contemporary inventions. A permanent exhibition grants insight into the historical and technical background of textile printing and showcases the machines, dyes and tools that were used.

The Decorative Art Museum with its innumerable designs describes with an amazing diversity almost three centuries of design history. It also houses museums of Industry, technics, fashion and local history. The temporary exhibitions, the publications, the demonstrations of printing with wooden blocks, the animations for children and adults, the guided tours as well as the tools of the trade provide a multifaceted wealth of information ranging from retrospection to creation.
