Experience in our impressive Black Forest farms, in mills and saws, in parlors and barns, how people lived, lived and worked in the Black Forest during the last 600 years!

Who expects only old houses in the open-air museum Vogtsbauernhof, will be astonished: In the stable are domestic animals of old breeds, on the pastures romp sheep, goats and donkeys, in the black kitchens it still smells of the smoke of the last fire. A wide range of events with daily activities ensures an eventful visit to the museum throughout the season. For example, numerous craftsmen demonstrate traditional handicrafts on the museum grounds. In daily rotation you can always experience at least one of them: the straw shoemaker, the spinner, the blacksmith and many more.
The tour through the museum leads through the entire region: from the Hotzenwaldhaus over to the Dreisamtäler Haus and the Schauinslandhaus, from the Tagelöhnerhaus from Oberprechtal on to the Heidenhaus from Furtwangen and up to the mighty farms from the Gutach and Kinzig valleys. In addition, there are numerous outbuildings from all regions of the Black Forest, such as mills, saws, chapels and granaries. From the northern Black Forest comes the "Schlössle von Effringen", a massive country castle built of sandstone. The 600-year-old building is the oldest and first former manor house in an open-air museum in Baden-Württemberg and one of the oldest buildings in a German open-air museum ever. Since the summer of 2023, another object, a vine house from Durbach in the Ortenau district, has found its place in the Vogtsbauernhof. Under the name "Ortenauhaus", the half-timbered building presents the Ortenau as the region of origin of the museum.

The open-air museum is also aimed at families with children. Wherever the museum mascot Sam, a herding boy, appears, the young museum guests can expect an offer to join in. The large adventure playground, a water play area and a forest labyrinth invite them to explore, while all kinds of wooden games and toys can be tried out in the Menne-Tenne in the Falkenhof.
