In 1894, the Baden Train Battalion No. 14 moved into Durlach and used Karlsburg Castle, once the residence of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach, as its new home garrison. From then on, the soldiers with their dark blue uniforms shaped the townscape and there was a lively exchange between the military and the population. The unit remained stationed in Durlach until 1918.
With this special exhibition, the Pfinzgaumuseum is dedicating itself to this exciting chapter of Durlach's military history for the first time and is presenting a variety of historical treasures from its own collections, from the Rastatt Museum of Military History and from the Widmann Collection, from which numerous and particularly valuable objects originate.
Historical photographs and plans show where the train battalion facilities used to be located in Durlach. A large number of objects such as uniforms, pickelhauben and sabres invite you to get to know the tasks, equipment and everyday life of the soldiers. Numerous personal objects such as reservist mugs and photo portraits will show you how much the experience of one's own service and pride in the battalion were cultivated in the culture of remembrance.
