Käsefondue © Peter Gaymann
The famous cartoonist, graphic artist and author Peter Gaymann was inspired by the three-country region to create new cartoons, drawings and objects. Besides his well-known chickens, he also lets pigs, women, men, children and cats look across the borders and discover unexpected similarities, differences, clichés and other truths from all areas of life in France, Switzerland and Germany alongside animal and human abysses. Born in Freiburg, he initially worked as a social pedagogue before becoming a freelance cartoonist and illustrator. Many of his over 100 books are bestsellers. He reflects on human strengths and weaknesses with kind humour and sharp wit. His professional role models are Tomi Ungerer, Sempé and F.K. Waechter.
Strange, surprising and rarely shown exhibits from the collection of the Dreiländermuseum complement the show. The exhibition offers a humorous and varied look at the characteristics of living together in Alsace, north-west Switzerland, Baden and beyond. It is a co-operation between the Dreiländermuseum and Baaske Cartoons, Müllheim.
