A bird's eye view of the earth is fascinating for its aesthetic effect, but Tom Hegen's photographs go far beyond beautiful images. They show places where man has been using and changing the earth for thousands of years - today, however, with unprecedented intensity. The increasing hunger for raw materials, land for agriculture, transportation, tourism and living and working space has left deep, often irreversible traces. Only around a quarter of the earth's surface is still free from human intervention. Hegen's large-format photographs document these interventions and the exhibition is "eye-opening, fascinating and sometimes frightening at the same time". This is one verdict on this show, following the major environmental exhibition on the Baltic Sea.
