This summer, the Bucheneck Museum is presenting two exhibitions in conjunction with the 16th Illustrated Book Festival, on view through August 30, 2026. For this edition, 17 candidates from all over France and Belgium submitted their “artist’s books” for the Robert Beltz Prize. The books are on display in the room dedicated to Robert Beltz.
In addition, a presentation of previously unseen works by Robert Beltz is on display on the first floor. Considered the “Great Rhineland Illustrator,” Robert Beltz (1900–1981) is known for self-publishing an impressive series of bibliophile editions, including *The Ship of Fools* by Sebastian Brant, *Faust* by Goethe, *The Flowers of Evil* by Baudelaire, Ernst Hoffmann’s *Fantastic Tales*, and Edgar Poe’s *Extraordinary Stories*, to name just a few. A prolific artist, his creativity and inspiration knew no bounds, and many drawings, sketches, and lesser-known works still await discovery…
