Shaping and unfolding

Werk des Künstlers Rolf Nesch
This exhibition is available in
German
Rolf Nesch, Nadira Husain, Ahmed Umar
The focus is on Rolf Nesch's prints and relief works from the Kunstmuseum's collection, which have never been shown before. These enter into a cultural dialog with works by Nadira Husain and Ahmed Umar. All three artists share experiences of migration and negotiate these in the visual language and motifs of their works.

Born in Oberesslingen, Rolf Nesch fled to Norway in 1933 as an opponent of National Socialism. Influenced by nature, culture and the people of the country, his formal language changed fundamentally. The work of the Indian-French artist Nadira Husain also bears witness to her movements across cultures and national borders. Ahmed Umar fled political persecution from Sudan to Norway in order to lead a self-determined life as a queer person based on his spiritual and cultural roots.

The exhibition examines the relationship between art, migration and cultural identity in times of geographical, social and economic upheaval. The accompanying program includes a cooperation with the intercultural theater festival "Made in Stuttgart" and a symposium on "Forms of Migration".
