Felicitas Mathé grew up in a family of musicians in Waldshut.
After graduating from high school, she studied music in Basel, Detmold and Hanover and was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation Prize as a concert violinist. She played for many years as a concert violinist in the NDR Elbphilharmonieorchester Hamburg and has devoted herself entirely to professional painting since the end of her stage career.
She received her artistic training in drawing and painting first with Waltraut Kiessner in Hamburg, then with Dagmar Wassong at the European Art Academy Trier and since 2017 with Prof. Martin Seidemann, Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee. She is able to transfer her working method as a musician completely to painting.
This results in the two main themes in her artistic work:
Felicitas Mathé is inspired by people making music and dancing. The hands are also particularly important to her as a means of expressing the human soul, because "a person making music FEELS completely at home".
