The Brazilian artist Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994) revolutionized landscape architecture in the first half of the 20th century. He was also active as a painter, graphic artist, sculptor, jewelry designer, stage and costume designer, environmental activist, collector and much more. This versatility is reflected in his designs for gardens, parks and urban projects.
