The Alsatian resistance network Les Pur-Sang is the subject of Étienne Gendrin's comic strip "Têtes de mule".
It tells the story of six young girls from Alsace, and in particular that of Alice Daul. Rising up against the de facto annexation of Alsace and Moselle to the Third Reich in the summer of 1940, they set up a resistance network to help French and foreign prisoners of war. They also took charge of the latter and of Alsatians fleeing the RAD and forced conscription, helping them to cross over to occupied France or Switzerland.
Etienne Gendrin looks back at the history of this network in his exhibition.
The "Résistantes!" exhibition is based on the "Têtes de mule" comic strip.
